KAIROS vs. COVID-19

The COVID-19 crisis dominated the first months of the year in many ways. This also includes the progress of digitization in everyday life and in companies. The Canadian satirical site “MBA-ish” has sharp-tongued positioned COVID-19 in a pioneering role for the digitalization trend in a Twitter post:

As a matter of fact, for instance almost every corporation these days must face the trend towards “remote working”. Also in system-relevant areas the usage of “digital helpers” is increasing. The German government’s “Corona-Warn-App” is only one example for using digital helpers in system-relevant areas. Pride Capital’s portfolio company KAIROS GmbH from Bochum, in cooperation with Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, has launched the “Corona-BoXX” within 24 days and brought it to the App Store & Google Play Store.

The Corona-BoXX fights at the forefront against the overburdening of the healthcare system and enables hospitals to monitor and document the healthy condition of patients in (domestic) quarantine using “Patient Reported Outcome Measures” (PROM). If, for example, the health of a patient in home quarantine deteriorates, the clinic receives this information directly and the patient can be admitted to hospital as quickly as possible. However, patients undergoing inpatient treatment can also use the CoronaBoXX patient app. In many cases, these patients can enter their health data regularly into the CoronaBoXX App, i.e. into an easy-to-use system. As a result, the staff is relieved of documentary and study-related tasks. The app also allows structured patient data to be fed into the “CentraXX” Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS; KAIROS GmbH) of the research and integration platform CentraXX of the treating hospital. By using various interfaces to other clinical systems, the data of the app can be related to all clinical data known in the clinic, aggregated in the research folder and made available in the CTMS.

On June 30, 2020, Prof. Dr. Christof von Kalle (Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin & Berlin Institute of Health the topic) spoke in a virtual keynote about clinical research, data and apps in the times of Corona at KAIROS’ annual user day. Once again, the relevance of digital helpers in this crisis was highlighted.
